GALILEO GALILEI

Galileo Galile was born in 1564 in the city of Pisa, Italy. About twenty years later he attended the University of Pisa. At the first, he wanted to become a doctor, but while he was there he became interested in Science and decided to became a scientist. In 1592, a year after his father’s death, the University of Padua invited him to be a professor of Mathematics. He stayed there for 19 years, where he became interested in the stars. He made an instrument which made far away things look larger and easier to examine. This way called the telescope. It could make things look thirty-two times as big as they looked the eye. Galileo could see many stars through his telescope and began to study the stars and other things in the sky.

JONAS EDWARD

Jonas Edward Salk was an American physician and epidemiologist. He developed the first vaccine against poliomyelitis.  He lived from 1914 to 1995.

He was born in New York City. He received an M.D. from New York University in 1939 and was appointed assistant professor of epidemiology at the University of Michigan. In 1947 he became head of the virus research laboratory at the University of Pittsburgh. From 1949-1954 he was a research professor of bacteriology. He was a professor of preventive medicine and chairman of the department from 1954 to 1956. Finally, he was a professor of experimental medicine from 1957 to 1963.

Salk and his colleagues developed an inactivated vaccine against polio in 1952. In 1954, the vaccine was distributed nationally. It greatly reduced the disease. In the mid-1950s the American virologist Albert Sabin developed Salk’s discovery. He found an oral vaccine. His discovery brought polio under control.

Now, people all over the world use Salk’s discovery. The Indonesian government has a national program on it. However, only a few people know the inventor, Jonas Edward Salk.

1.      Generic structure

The purpose of a biographical recount is to inform by retelling past events and achievements in a person’s life.

The texts consist of three parts:

a)      Part 1: orientation

It given the reader the background information as two why this person is

Noteworthy and should have a biography written about the. The opening paragraph should answer the questions: who, what, where, when, and how.

b)     Part 2: series

It presents a series of events, usually told in chronological order. Here the writer might refer to a certain time on line.

MUHAMMAD HATTA

Muhammad Hatta was one of Indonesian founding fathers. He lived from 1902 until 1980. Together with Sukarno, he proclaimed the independence of Indonesian on 17^th August 1945.

Muhammad Hatta was born on 12^th August 1902 in Bukittinggi, west Sumatra. When he was still in junior high school in Bukittinggi he joined the league of young Sumantrans.

When he finished his study in Bukittinggi, he moved to Batavia. Then, he went to the Netherland to continue his study. When he was there, he participated actively in the nation movement. As a result, he was arrested by the Dutch government.

In 1932, Bung Hatta went back to Indonesia. He joined a political organization called Pendidikan National Indonesia. This organization wanted Indonesian people to know many things about politics. Because of this activity he was arrested again. He was sent to Bovan Dingual, and later to Bandan Neire as a prisoner. Before the Japanese invaded in 1942 he was bought back to Java.

On 17^th August 1945, two days after Japan surrendered to the Allies, Bung Karno and Bung Hatta declared the independence of this Indonesia. Then, they were selected as the president and vice president. Bung Hatta was the vice president until 1956. He resigned and concentrated in writing. On 14^th march 1980 bung hatta passed away in Jakarta.

Muhammad Hatta was one of the greatest people in Indonesia. People will always remember him as an honest and sincere person.
