A Narrative text is a text that tells a story and entertains the audience. The purpose of narrative text, other than providing entertainment, can be to make the audience think about issue, teach them a lesson, or excite their emotions.
Examples narrative texts include:
- Myths
 - Fairytales
 - Aboriginal Dreaming stories
 - Science Fiction
 - Historical Fiction
 - Romance Novel
 
- Orientation : introduction of characters, time, setting and place.
 - Complication: problem, complic by characters.
 - Resolution: describes the solution to the complication and gives an ending to the story.
 
- Specific participants or characters
 - The use of past tense
 - The use of past continuous tense
 - A lot of action verbs
 - Some relational verbs to describe the characters and setting
 - Many connective or conjunctions to sequence the story
