PASSIVE VOICE

grThe passive voice is a voice that indicates that the subject is the patient or recipient of the action denoted by the verb.
Form of passive voice
Passive subject + To be + Past participle
Ø  The object of the active sentence becomes the subject of the passive sentence
Ø  The subject of the active sentence becomes the object of the passive sentence.

Examples:

Khuhyun sings a song
s                 v        o
A song is sung by Kyuhyun
s                v              o
Example :
Active : The professor teaches the students                                    
Passive: The students are taugh by the professor


Passive voice in Present Tense
Formula : Passive subject + To be + Past Participle
{To be : is(he, she it), am(I), are(you, they, we)}

Ø  Examples Passive Voice in Present Tense
Active   : Rita writes a letter
Passive : A letter is written by Rita

Active    : My mother writes three letters
Passive : Three letters are written by my mother

Passive Voice in Past Tense

Formula : Passive Subject + To be + Past Participle
(To be : Was(I, she, he, it ) and Were(you, they, we))

Ø  Examples Passive Voice In Past Tense
Active   : Sam repaired the car
Passive : The car was repaired by Sam

Active   : I sent letters last week
Passive : Letters were sent by  me last week
